Data Platforms – More than ‘just’ Analytics

When itelligent-i meets with potential customers and I start to engage in conversation regarding Data Platforms, customers realise that a modern data platform is not only a single source of the truth, but it can be used in delivering many benefits in addition to supporting the production of analytics.  Enabling this, depends on your architecture, and whether the architecture supports corporate policy and enables data management practices.

itelligent-i has recently extended consultancy offering to implement Artificial Intelligence CoPilots (or AI Prompts) over the organisations corporate data.  This is made easier for our customers as itelligent-i’s data platform has already considered a security, auditing and enabled data management processes for technical, business support and data quality improvement.

Customers often have in excess of 20 individual data sources that they require information from for analytics, and AI benefits from this.  Large Language Models (LLMs) from different venders can be configured to explore the data in the platform and expose knowledge held within.  The security model is already in place, so AI Prompts are configured to access and serve information from selected data sources relevant to the users seeking information.   The configuration can easily include or exclude sensitive (personal) data, at the choice of the organisation, and importantly any access is fully audited.   Good data platform architecture enforces explicit access rules to individual users, and automated solutions.

Once an organisation understands the benefits of operating from a single source of the truth for all their data, it becomes vastly easier to Match data across many systems, manage Risk by securing data and having a full audit trail for access, use data in external applications, share data securely (with data sharing policies).

So practical applications such as automated sharing of data (sending and receiving) between NHS (Shared Care Record), Police, Fire Services becomes possible, visible and easy to manage.   Matching data becomes possible with the addition of Master Data Management.  Data integration between systems is simplified.  Data Quality becomes visible and possible to resolve at the source system level which enhances business efficiency and alignment to legal responsibilities.  Previously we’ve worked with CRM partners to expose critical data to enhance workflows, and to store vast amounts of archived data for ad-hoc analysis to meet legal requirements.

An enterprise data platform is an enabling capability that all complex organisations should have, and in itelligent-i’s opinion must have.  It is the only viable solution for having factual transparent data, that up to date, and supports the ability to redesign services through good analytics insights.  However, it’s not only there to support Analytics.  It can securely provide access to select data from any other technologies too, be it AI, Workflow, monitoring etc.  The transformational benefits of operating on a single source of the truth are clear for Analytics purposes.   It shouldn’t be underestimated the impact having managed, secure, high quality, matched data available for other purposes across your organisation to enhance efficiencies and enabled better service outcomes.

If you have any questions or have been task with similar dilemmas, rather than looking for individual point solutions that all required data to be exported and extracted from source systems, consider a single source of the truth that can be managed, and trusted.
